Easter 2024
In Edinburgh
on a March day
the dancing daffodils-
a precious reminder,
of fresh promise,
and of nature’s glory.
Yet their beauty
may sadden our spirits
as we watch others
racked by war and famine
in the myriad places
where suffering is great;
and of the places
which held laughter
and the kites of kids
but now the graves
of dear ones.
Surely, surely
we long for signs of peace,
of tenderness between peoples
of the healing of the nations.
And so this Easter
may we be still and more loving
as we listen to the world’s tears,
for somewhere in their midst
are the tears of Christ,
and they companion ours
in that Mystery called hope.
